Cellular Respiration

Cellular Respiration

Objectives

• To explain how the organisms use the biomacromolecules that are stored in their bodies to gain energy

• To investigate the oxygen uptake by respiration of different organisms

• To investigate and compare the respiration rate of different organisms with the help of micro respirometers

• To demonstrate cellular respiration using a model that explains the balance between reactants and products of the cellular respiration reaction

• To analyze the results from experiments involving measurement of respiration rates in germinating seeds or invertebrates using a respirometer

HS-LS1-7. Use a model to illustrate that cellular respiration is a chemical process whereby the bonds of food molecules and oxygen molecules are broken and the bonds in new compounds are formed, resulting in a net transfer of energy.
