Sexual and Asexual Reproduction
Sexual reproduction depends on two parents for the formation of a new individual. Fertilization occurs when the sperm reaches the egg to form a zygote. The offspring receives genetic material from both their parents and therefore has a unique genetic makeup. Asexual reproduction is the creation of new organisms without fertilization. Basically, asexual reproduction is based on mitosis, and therefore there are no hereditary differences or changes in chromosome numbers between organisms. In this experiment, we will examine reproduction by division, vegetative reproduction, and seed formation.
