Molar Mass Experiment
This experiment aims to determine the molar mass of copper. In other words, the mass of 1 mole copper will be calculated. As 1 moleequals 6.023 x 10²³(Nᴀ=Avogadro Number),the molar mass of copper equals to the mass of 6.023 x 10²³ copper. Student uses electrolysis to experimentally determine the molar mass. Using H₂SO₄ as an electrolyte the initial and the final mass of copper electrode is measured. The total charge passing through the circuit in a limited period of time is associated withthe reacting mass of copper. This information is used to calculated the molar mass of copper. In this experiment electrolysis and redox reactions are used to highlight the basic chemistry principles such as molar mass.
