• To learn what a mixture is, and the difference between homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures,
• To study the techniques used for mixture separation,
• To use three techniques to separate three different mixtures.
Categories: Chemistry Laboratory
In this experiment we will go through the techniques which can be used for mixture separation. Three of the methods are going to be performed; separation using a separatory funnel , extraction and simple distillation. Oil-water mixture is going to be separated by density difference using a separatory funnel. Then, the difference in solubility is used and extraction of oil from potato chips using hexane as solvent is conducted. Finally, separation by difference in boiling points is used while distilling hexane and oil mixture.
You will be learning process that the titration curves of some typical acid base neutralization reactions.
