Avogadro’s Law Experiment

In this experiment Avogadro number and the concept of mole are studied. Avogadro number equals 6.023 x 1023 and gives the number of molecules inside one mole of material. In this experiment the student going to use electrolysis to experimentally determine this number. H2SO4 is the electrolyte and change in mass of copper electrolyzed is determined. The mass reacted is linked to the total charge passing through the circuit and after steps of calculations the student determines Avogadro’s number. This is an experiment which combines the basic principles of chemistry with electrolysis and redox reactions.
